After Morocco implemented a set of firm preventive measures and decisions to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus, several Moroccan families have found themselves home and jobless. In a humane initiative, a group of Moroccan celebrities has launched a campaign aimed at ensuring the expenses of impacted families are paid for.
Moroccan journalist Youssef Belhaissi is one of the people behind this heart-warming move. On his social media accounts, the journalist announced that he is donating part of his salary to families in need.
«Showing solidarity is a duty during these circumstances, closing cafés and restaurants will affect a large number of people and can weigh heavily on families. Personally, I am allocating part of my salary to sponsor one or two families as much as I can», wrote Belhaissi, encouraging other Moroccans to do the same.
Helping families amid lockdown
Moroccan singer Saida Charaf announced that she is joining the same campaign. On her Instagram account, Charaf said that she would «give away part of her income to seven families who had their breadwinners leave work», urging other artists and athletes to do the same.
Moroccan footballer Walid Azaro was one of them. The Al-Ittifaq striker took to social media to announce that he would support four families. «Because the best thing you can do these days is to stay home, I am supporting four families with part of my money», he wrote.
On the same token, Moroccan footballer Abderrazak Hamdallah announced that he will be supporting 1000 families in Morocco during these harsh circumstances.
Politicians in Morocco have also picked up the initiative. Morocco’s Popular Movement party MP Kamal Laafou said on his Facebook account that «solidarity is a must during these days».
«Closing cafés and restaurants will affect a large number of people, and this could harm some families. Personally, I will allocate part of my income to a group of families», he announced.
Other Moroccan artists announced the allocation of money to some families, including singer Hatem Ammour, Faysal Azizi, Fati Jamali, and others, welcomed this campaign.
Other social media influencers have launched a similar campaign, posting their phone numbers on the internet for those who need help, encouraging people to stay home and avoid going out.
