Coronavirus : Moroccan Salafist Abou Naim arrested after criticizing mosques closure

The judicial police opened Tuesday an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecution at the Rabat Court of Appeal in charge of terrorism and extremism cases to determine the criminal acts attributed to a person suspected of inciting hatred and threatening citizens to commit acts that would seriously undermine the public order.

In a press release, the National Police (DGSN) said that the so-called Abou Naim appeared on a video posted on social media and made remarks including incitement to hatred and violence as well as the founding elements of criminal acts seriously threatening the public order, while denigrating and ridiculing efforts by the public authorities to face the epidemic of the new coronavirus.

The accused was remanded in police custody to conduct the judicial investigation carried out by the national office for the fight against terrorism and organized crime under the national squad of the judicial police, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, to reveal the motive behind this provocative video, which includes elements excommunicating the State and its institutions, and determine all the criminal acts imputed to the accused, said the press release.
