Police in Tangier arrested, Saturday evening, two girls aged 21 and 22 suspected of spreading false information on suspected cases of infection with the new coronavirus.

Police had spotted a video on social media showing four girls mockingly contacting the monitoring system dedicated to the coronavirus to report false cases of contamination with Covid-19, said the national police (DGSN) in a statement, specifying that this action required the opening of a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of two of the suspects.

According to the same source, investigations are underway to apprehend the other persons appearing in the video.

The two suspects have been remanded into police custody for further investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor's office in order to clarify all the circumstances of this case, the statement noted, adding that identification operations are underway to arrest anyone involved in the misuse of telephone numbers dedicated to the monitoring system for citizens seeking explanations or to report real cases of illness.
