Police arrested Monday three people in the city of Essaouira for spreading fake news on social media on the coronavirus situation in Morocco.

The three people, aged between 32 and 44, spread audio recordings through social media pretending that dozens of people were infected by the novel coronavirus and claiming that these people were infected by the only case reported in the city, National Police (DGSN) said in a release.

Investigations led to the arrest of the three people, the source pointed out.

Two of the suspects were placed on custody, while the third one is under judicial inquiry, it added.
