Moroccan appointed to Unesco's commission on ethics of scientific knowledge and technology

Morocco's Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, an international expert in artificial intelligence, has been appointed to the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST) of UNESCO.

She joins, for a four-year term (2020-2023), the 18 members of COMEST, composed of eminent specialists in scientific, legal, philosophical, cultural and political disciplines from various regions of the world and appointed by the Director-General of Unesco in an individual capacity.

«It is an honor for me to serve (…) ethics in this beautiful institution that is Unesco», Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni said on twitter.

Holder of a PhD from the Pierre and Marie Curie University and a habilitation to direct research in Artificial Intelligence, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni is Professor of exceptional class at Sorbonne University, Faculty of Science and Engineering. She leads the research group Multi-Agent Systems and co-leads the research axis Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences within the Computer Science Laboratory of this prestigious university.

The World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology is an advisory body and a forum for reflection set up by UNESCO in 1998.

Recently, another Moroccan, the academic Fatima Roumate, was chosen by Unesco to join an international group of the «world's leading experts" to draw up recommendations on the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI).
