Social assistance services have been set up for homeless people to protect them from the risk of the spread of coronavirus, by equipping 145 areas to receive them, said on Tuesday head of government Saaddine El Othmani.

Responding to a question on the reality and prospects of actions taken in response to the repercussions of the coronavirus crisis, during a meeting of the House of Advisors devoted to general policy, El Otmani noted that the collective effort of the various stakeholders, including the Entraide Nationale, the Red Crescent, local authorities, territorial authorities and civil society, made it possible to welcome, until April 19, at least 6,230 homeless people in the reception centers.

At the same time, a total of 1,699 people were able to join their families, he added.

He also tackled the situation of Moroccans stranded due to closed borders as a preventive measure against the spread of Covid-19, recalling that in application of the instructions from King Mohammed VI, the government has set up a crisis unit within the competent ministry in order to provide appropriate responses to this problem.

El Otmani also recalled the 400 measures taken by the Kingdom in various fields to deal with the spread of the new coronavirus.
