133 out of 309 inmates were infected with the novel coronavirus at the local prison of Ouarzazate, while only one inmate tested positive for the virus at the local prison of Ksar El Kebir, the general Delegation for prison administration and reintegration (DGAPR) said Thursday.

The partial results of laboratory tests carried out on all inmates of the local prison in Ouarzazate showed that 133 of the 309 inmates were contaminated with the new coronavirus, said DGPAR in a statement on the state of health of officials and inmates of penal institutions in connection with Covid-19.

Public opinion will be kept informed of the results of the rest of the tests of the inmates and the officials, given the fact the test result of the recently appointed acting director was negative, the same source pointed out.

The DGPAR stressed that all detainees who tested positive have been isolated in a special ward, where they will be subject to the treatment protocol adopted by the competent authorities and to the monitoring of a special health committee sent to the institution on Thursday by the ministry of Health.

In addition, the same source added, a joint central committee of the DGAPR was dispatched to ensure the implementation of the health, safety and administrative measures taken.

As for the local prison of Ksar El Kebir, the general Delegation pointed out that the tests carried out for the rest of the inmates of the establishment revealed the contamination of only one detainee, who was subjected to the treatment protocol in force at the hospital, while five inmates who were in contact with him were placed in quarantine, adding that two out of four officials of this prison intitution are healed, the statement concluded.
