5.1 million families have financially benefited from the special fund created to manage the coronavirus crisis in Morocco, Interior minister Abdelouafi Laftit said Wednesday in Rabat.

The fund has supported 800,000 people with national social security fund-CNSS, after they lost their jobs, and 2.3 million families holding with Ramed card, in addition to two million non-Ramed households, the minister explained during a meeting of the Committee of the Interior, Local Authorities, Housing and Urban Policy at the House of Representatives.

Laftit stressed that optimal implementation of the state of health emergency requires above all a deep conviction on the part of all citizens in their common destiny.

Laftit mentioned the provision of health resources and equipment to hospitals, as well as the creation of field hospitals, while ensuring the supply of basic necessities to markets.

Among the measures adopted, the government official recalled the compulsory wearing of medical masks for all persons authorized to get outside their residence in exceptional cases. In this regard, the effort to supply the market with sufficient quantities of masks has resulted in the production of 110 million units.

During the discussions that followed the minister's address to the Committee members, he highlighted the mobile application launched by the national police (DGSN), enabling security officers at various checkpoints to track the movements of citizens. It is a 100% provisional application, developed by Moroccan experts, he said.

Regarding the issue of a possible lifting of the state of health emergency, Laftit said that possible scenarios are currently being studied and that all accompanying measures are being considered.
