A group of irregal migrants of sub-Saharan origin, who were staying in a residential center during the state of health emergency, tried on Friday to flee the facility, refused to comply with instructions and exposed a police officer to serious threats.
The National Police (DGSN) said in a statement that the 78 migrants were violent and used kitchen utensils before storming the outside door of the center in an attempt to violate health confinement procedures, which forced a member of a mobile police unit to use his weapon and fire two warning rubber bullets, followed by a third bullet which hit one of them and injured him.
The situation was brought under control in the center while four police officers and four migrants were transferred to the hospital after suffering from bruises due to a stampede and the exchange of violence using objects, added the same source.
The judicial police of Laayoune opened a preliminary investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to determine the circumstances of this case.
