The General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) announces that the National Brigade of Judicial Police arrested on Sunday four people, including a police officer in Tangier, for their alleged links to international drug trafficking networks, breach of professional secrecy, complicity, corruption and hiding wanted persons.
According to initial investigations, the three suspects were linked to international drug trafficking networks in connection with the cocaine shipment seized recently at Tanger-Med port, while benefiting from the complicity of the arrested police officer who covered their criminal activities, in addition to breach of professional secrecy in exchange for sums of money as bribery to refrain from doing his work, DGST pointed out in a release.
The four suspects, including the police officer, were placed on custody pending the end of investigations led by the National Brigade of the judicial police and under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office so as to highlight the network's national ramifications and its international links.
Search operations are underway to arrest all accomplices, the source said.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts made by DGST, in coordination with the National Security services, to fight against international drug trafficking networks and cross-border organised crime.
