Sixty-eight (68) new cases of coronavirus infection (Covid-19) and Seventy-three (73) recoveries have been reported in Morocco in the last 24 hours, the ministry of Health announced Friday.
The new figures bring to 8,071 the number of contaminations in the Kingdom since the confirmation of the first case on March 2 and to 7,268 the number of fully recovered people, (90.1%), said Dr. Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Emergency Public Health Operations at the ministry of Health, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its TV channel M24 and on RIM RADIO.
The death toll remained steady at 208, with no fatalities in the last 24 hours, i.e. a case-fatality rate of 2.6%, he added.
According to the official, 31 cases have been registered in the region of Marrakech-Safi (of which 27 are linked to the outbreak reported on Thursday), 18 cases in Casablanca-Settat, 8 cases in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, 6 cases in the Eastern region, 5 cases in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, while the other regions have not reported any cases.
Of the 68 new confirmed cases, 62 have been detected through the contact person tracking system, i.e. 91% of the new cases, which has so far involved a total of 48,416 cases, Mrabet said, adding that 7,176 contact persons are still under medical surveillance.
An additional 14,271 cases were excluded after negative laboratory results, i.e. a total of 267,278 excluded cases, he said.
As regards the infection rate since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom, it has so far reached 22.2/100. 000 inhabitants nationally, while the highest rate was recorded in Casablanca-Settat (36.3%), followed by Draâ-Tafilalet (34.1%), then Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (30%), Marrakech-Safi (29.4%), Fez-Meknes (22, 9%) and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (14.6%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (10%), the Eastern region (7.8%), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (4.5%), Souss-Massa (3%) and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (2.8%), while Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra recorded the lowest rate (1.2%).
Concerning active cases, Mrabet noted that 595 patients are currently under treatment or under medical follow-up at the national level, i.e. a rate of 1.6/100. 000 inhabitants, specifying that 275 of those cases are in the region of Casablanca-Settat, 131 cases in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, 106 cases in Marrakech-Safi, 28 cases in Fez-Meknes, 34 cases in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, while the rest of the regions have recorded fewer than 10 cases, with the exception of the two regions where there are no active cases.
In addition, 18 cases are in resuscitation or intensive care, of which 5 are under artificial respiration, he said, adding that these cases are distributed between the region of Casablanca-Settat and the region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.
