The United Arab Emirates plans to appoint a new ambassador to Morocco, Saudi newspaper Elaphe wrote, quoting well-informed sources from the two countries.

The choice of Abu Dhabi fell on El Asri Said Ahmad Al Dhahiri. An experienced diplomat having already served as UAE’s ambassador to Rabat between 2011 and 2016.

It has been more than a year that the representation of the UAE in Rabat has been without an ambassador, since Ali Salem Al Kaabi's was recalled by the authorities of his country in response to an identical decision taken by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On July 6, King Mohammed VI appointed Mohamed Hamzaoui as the kingdom's new ambassador to Abu Dhabi.
