Morocco has updated, Wednesday, the procedure followed to manage Covid-19 cases and contact cases, as well as the screening strategy.

In a document approved by the Health Minister, the health authorities set the new changes put together to manage active cases in the Kingdom. The document indicates that symptomatic confirmed cases are to be immediately sent to hospitals for a treatment period of 10 days.

Meanwhile, asymptomatic cases will be asked to stay home for a 7-day treatment period. These mild caes will have to self-isolate during the treatement period and for an additional 7-day period. «A rigorous medical follow-up of the patient’s state of health must be ensured, in order to detect any signs of aggravation or undesirable side effects», the document explained.

Home treatment

Asymptomatic cases that will be asked to stay home during the treatment period shouldn’t have any risk factors, including age (over 65), asthma, chronic respiratory diseases, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, organ failure and cancer.

«It also applies to any patients not suffering from any mental disorder» and who are «deemed capable of respecting the recommended precautions and reporting any signs to the medical team that can be reachable 24/7», it added.

The new protocol includes, according to the same source, following a «standard curative treatment, respecting hygiene measures» and «daily telephone monitoring».

The new protocol must also take into account «the opinion of the patient and their predisposition to assume this option, and whether they are able to strengthen their support for the decision» by filling a consent form.

The same source, citing the new treatment criteria, indicates that for an asymptomatic case, recovery «can only be possible at the end of the 7 day-treatment period, without the appearance of any symptoms related to the disease».

The new protocol will allow health workers and facilities to have room for other symptomatic cases, given the increasing number of daily infections in the Kingdom.
