Stranded in Melilla, a Moroccan dies in Nador after falling from border fence

A Moroccan, who had been stranded in Melilla since March, died on Wednesday at a Nador hospital after he fell from the fence separating Beni Ensar and the Spanish enclave.

According to El Faro de Melilla, which quotes Nador City, the man died at Al Hassani hospital in Nador, succumbing to his injuries. On Tuesday evening, he climbed the Melilla fence to return to his country, but he to the ground while trying, breaking his legs and hurting his head.

«The victim was transferred to the intensive care unit of the hospital for treatment, where he died because of his injuries», the same source added.

El Faro de Melilla recalls that many Moroccan citizens have found themselves stranded in the city after Morocco closed its borders due to the coronavirus health crisis. 

A Moroccan woman, stranded in the Spanish enclave, died in May. Hosted at the Plaza de Toros, the woman who worked as a domestic worker was fired by her employers during the health crisis.
