Police in the city of Mehdia thwarted, on Wednesday, an irregular immigration attempt and arrested three individuals, including a woman, for their alleged link with a criminal network active in the organization of illegal immigration and human trafficking.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 49, were arrested in the region of Kasba in the suburbs of Kenitra, the National Police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that the search operation revealed that the suspects were hiding 25 Sub-Saharan would-be immigrants and intended to help them immigrate illegally from the local coasts.
The search operation made it possible to seize a traditional fishing boat at the port of the city, probably used in this criminal activity, said the press release.
The suspects and would-be immigrants will undergo a judicial investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to determine the ins and outs of this case and to identify people involved in this criminal network, the DGSN concluded.
