The prototype of an ICU bed, designed and manufactured in Morocco in accordance with international standards, was presented Thursday evening in Casablanca, in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy.

This pioneering project, conceived as part of a public-private collaboration between the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Green and Digital Economy, industrial companies, an engineering office and technical centers, represents a viable and accessible alternative to imported beds, allowing Morocco to face the challenges of the pandemic of the new coronavirus (covid-19) at a competitive cost in a context of shortage of this type of beds in certain regions of the world, as well as possibly supplying other countries, especially in Africa.

The objective is to meet, on the one hand, the national needs in equipment and supplies intended for the health sector and, on the other hand, to support the government's guidelines aimed at promoting local production, particularly in sectors that have become strategic amid this health crisis.

In a press statement at the end of the presentation ceremony of this prototype, Elalamy welcomed this Moroccan bed which is 30% to 75% cheaper than what is imported from the international market.

He highlighted the importance of promoting national production which can be a substitute for imports. «We import today 183 billion dirhams per year of products in all areas», said the minister, indicating that his Department has identified a project bank of 34 billion dirhams of products that Morocco can produce in instead of continuing to import.
