The Ministry of Health said on Tuesday that the reproduction rate of the virus reached 0.95 at the end of the past week (August 24-30), stressing that the epidemiological situation "is not good" despite an improvement of the data compared to the previous week.

«This rate means that we have passed the peak of the epidemic and that we are in the downward phase of the epidemic curve», explained the same source.

Presenting these weekly data (Aug. 24-30), the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health, Mouad Mrabet said that 9,050 new cases were recorded, including 42 imported ones, in addition to 223 deaths, while the number of people who recovered reached 10,012, noting that the past week has witnessed, compared to the previous week, an increase in the number of cases of 8.2% and a slight decrease in deaths of 3%. «The weekly infection rate has dropped from 27 to 25 per 100,000 inhabitants», he said.

He noted that a decrease in the index related to the number of active cases and their rate per 100,000 people had been recorded over the past week, and the latest figure varied between 38 and 39 cases per 100,000 people.

The weekly evolution of the rate of positive analyzes, per 100 laboratory tests, showed a decrease from 6.4 to about 5.8%, after registering an increase with the lifting of restrictions.

Regarding the epidemiological situation compared to the countries of the world, Mrabet stressed that Morocco now ranks 46th worldwide (+3), adding that the same is true for the number of deaths (46th globally, i.e. +3 places), while the Kingdom's ranking stabilized at 31st place in terms of screening tests.

In response to questions received via the WhatsApp application, Mrabet indicated that the possibility of transmitting the virus through blood remains very low according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and that the recurrence of the disease in people who have already had it is very rare (within the limit of two cases), noting the absence of scientific studies proving the effect of the consumption of clove infusion to protect against Covid-19.

With regard to awareness-raising messages, Mrabet focused on people treated at home, explaining that they must not present neither symptoms nor clinical signs, or risk factors or psychological distress, in addition to having an adequate isolation room inside the house.
