The United States is closely examining the situation of religious freedom in Morocco. According to a new report by the US Department of State, the US embassy in Rabat is engaged in meeting «members of religious minority and majority communities throughout the country».
The Moroccan authorities arrested, in 1862, two Confederate diplomats who visited Tangier. The arrest was ordered by the U.S. Consul James DeLong who held the two men in prison and sent them to Boston, in a move that violated Morocco's neutrality.
The Palestinian government has said that Morocco will not attend the US-led conference, to be hosted by Bahrain. This announcement was made after a White House senior official told media that the Kingdom, alongside Egypt and Jordan, confirmed their attendance to the meeting, expected to unveil the economic portion of the «Deal of the Century».
Jared Kushner’s visit to Morocco was seen as «positive and productive». The senior White House advisor flew to the Kingdom to drum up support for the US peace plan, which was slammed PJD and other Moroccan associations.
