The UN Fifth Committee approved earlier this week the MINURSO’s budget for 2019/20. The approved budget is higher than the one allocated to the peacekeeping mission in the previous year. This decision comes amid the United States’ UN cuts.
Algeria has paid a six-figure salary to American foreign lobbyist David Keene to defend its interests in Washington, a research group revealed. Keene was able to meet the US National Security Advisor John Bolton, weeks after he addressed the Western Sahara conflict.

The Moroccan authorities arrested, in 1862, two Confederate diplomats who visited Tangier. The arrest was ordered by the U.S. Consul James DeLong who held the two men in prison and sent them to Boston, in a move that violated Morocco's neutrality.
