After three rounds of negotiations have been held in Rabat, Moroccan and European officials are expected to meet again in Brussels in the coming days, in order to conclude a new fisheries agreement.
On Sunday 20th of May, the Polisario Front made sure to commemorate the outbreak of its armed struggle in Tifariti, located east of the Moroccan Berm. The decision discredits the movement’s stance and will to conduct direct negotiations with the Kingdom.
Supporters of the Polisario at the Spanish parliament have submitted a draft bill, largely in favor of the Front. The suggestion was rejected by the People’s Party.
A few days before the UN Security Council adopts a new resolution on the Western Sahara, Morocco has managed to convince EU fisheries ministers to give the go-ahead for a new agreement. The latter will include the Sahara’s territorial waters.
