While the Mauritanian people welcomed the reopening of the Guerguerate border crossing and flow of goods and people, several Algerian and Polisario media have relayed in unison the analysis of a Mauritanian political scientist ensuring that Mauritania would have been angered by Morocco’s military intervention.
With the support of the UN and world powers, the Mauritanian head of diplomacy is leading mediation between Morocco and the Polisario. Officially, only Algeria is missing from Nouakchott's contacts.
The only paved road between Morocco and Mauritania for the transportation of heavy goods vehicles is located in a no man's land nicknamed «Kandahar». The area has become the center of frequent conflicts between the Kingdom and the Polisario.
While waiting for the construction of the large port of Dakhla Atlantique, the port of Lamhiriz, located only 65 km from El Guerguerate, could constitute a solution to the recurrent blockades of the Guerguerate border crossing.
