The Spanish government and the Polisario have been leading strong diplomatic campaigns at the European Parliament. This comes as the European Union institution is examining the fisheries and agricultural agreements concluded between Morocco and the body.
Morocco and the Polisario have both sent their lobbyists to Strasbourg to defend the fisheries agreement, signed in July between Rabat and the European Union, in the European Parliament.
On Thursday, the European Parliament in Brussels announced that Ukranian filmmaker Oleg Gennadyevich Sentsov was awarded the Sakharov Prize. Hirak figure Nasser Zefzafi was among the three finalists who were nominated to win the award.
Moroccan-Dutch nationals have launched a campaign since January to secure the nomination of Nasser Zefzafi to the Sakharov price. The Hirak figure has made it to the final list, Tuesday, which includes only three names.
While, a source told Yabiladi earlier this week that his candidacy is not featured in the Sakharov Prize’s nominee shortlist, Dutch MEP Kati Piri denounced the information, stating that Hirak figure Nasser Zefzafi is officially nominated to compete for the award.
The Polisario Front is once again angry at one of the European Union vital institutions. In fact, the separatist movement believes that the adoption of the Euro-Mediterranean EU-Morocco agreement on air transport undermines the «international rights of the Sahrawi people».
