a friend of mine wants to go to Morocco in September but hesitates between Marrakech and Agadir. I have never been to Agadir so couldn't give her an idea on the place but told her that for me it would be Marrakech with no hesitation. The problem is that she will be going from the 20th sep till the end of the month, knowing that it'll be Ramadan and she isn't Muslim, i am wondering if she would still enjoy her holidays?? i have no doubt the atmosphere after aliftar will be fantastic but what about the day? if she took a "demi-pension" in a hotel, would she be able to find restaurants etc that serve food during the day?
thanks in advance for your replies

As i am trying to drive off anyone who is thinking to come to Marrakesh i will definitely advise him or her to go to Agadir..joking,
Well, if your friend is looking for peace Ramadan is the best period, he/she can enjoy the stillness during the day, but as you know, after sunset, people get crazy ...
as to hotel and food, in touristic cities, they are plenty of open cafés and restaurents, there 'll be no risk of starvation,
Normally, beaches are better in september and i personnally think this is the best period to travel in Morocco, this year it will be definitely more quite and cleaner as all we-natives will be off...
as to temperature, it will still burning but bearable and sometimes Agadir is Hotter than Marrakesh in this month...
that's it Princess

As Hicham said not a big issue in either towns for food but Half board is a best option for her & Agadir is by far a top destination in this time of the year ,but she could if she has time do a day or 2 in kech catching a Soupratour or CTM for the 4.5/5 hours ride even better if she could get a Taxi (£125) & do it via Taroudant via Tizi-n-Test pass (Morocco's highest road at 2092m) with a stop at Tin Mal & absorb the architectural grandeur of this mosque (1156 AD), an emblem of the Almohad dynasty. Open to non-Muslim visitors (if your friend is flying from the UK ,a ticket to kech may be cheaper 7 in this case she could do CTM on the way down & Taxi on the way back with a last night in Kech )
Thanks guys! you're both locals and seem to agree on Agadir as a best option for this time of the year! i will advise her then and give her the option.
Atlas, she's flying from France but she found good deals for both cities thats why she wanted ideas on both before deciding. Your tip about driving via Taroudant and the highways sounds great!! i shall remember this for my next trip to the south
Hicham, how are you doing? still playing "arra7ala saghir" across Morocco with your bike? tell us a bit about your adventures

Well, as i am still posting on the forum, i can't be but stuck in front of my computer... i just make small training trips in the surroundings of Marrakesh (30/40 km), i wish i had time to play Arra7ala Saghir, but infortunately i have to work..i am intending though to make the most of my weekends but still need some equipment and maybe some guts also...in the meantime i am traveling on foot with karl Bushby's "the goliath expedition", this guy is amazing, he walked from punta arena in the south of latin America through the americas till Russia, and intending to walk till his hometown in Ireland..
I wouldn't advise her to go to Morocco during Ramadan. If she could wait only a few days later by the end of the month around 29/30 she could enjoy her stay better especially if she isn't fasting. still if she is hunting for a cheap Holiday that is something else. One can't have it both ways.

Hello! here i am again perstering you with my questions
Right, my friend and her hubby have finally decided to go to Marrakech on the 18th of this month. They searched for cheap but "decent" hotels and found a couple but after reading the reviews (which described both hotels as revolting and with an appalling service) they got scared! the hotels are "Sahara Inn" and "le Marrakech". i have no idea where these hotels are and if they really are that bad so if you guys know anything about them any feedback will be appreciated!
Also, can you advise on any good restaurants in town that offer typical Moroccan food but for reasonable prices? they don't have a massive budget to spend but still they would like to enjoy the experience and taste delicious local food along with entertainment (i know there are restaurants that offer live music in the background etc).
Last but not least! do you know of any guide online that offers tips on what to see in Marrakech and how to plan your holidays, ideally in French?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Both Hotels have a bad reputation ,Marrakech is by the main round about & used by Marmara for cheap hols & mainly used by the frogs ! avoid at any cost , Sahara inn is on the road to Casa I know that this time of the year & mainly this year they could get a 5* for about 800 dhs per night & even better they could stay in Riads for a lot less try these for a taster ( they are in descending order ) : [www.riad-saba.com] [www.riaddollardessables.com] [www.souvenir-marrakech.com] [www.riadalidrisi.com]
Few sites to find out mor about what to see in Kech :
Restaurants all the good ones area bit pricy & the best is Al Fassia , Dar Moha but for a budget ones they could try les cigonges near Mala7 or for a bit more try Tanjia alos near by . for excursions outside kech i highly recommend the National park & please tell them to avoid Ouirika ,they could spend a day in Essaouira using the bus Soupratour ( the office is next to the Train station)
Atas, thank you so much for your help, it's fantastic!! i've forwarded those links to her and i'm sure she will be very pleased. You're right about the accomodation, they will be mad not to take advantage of those prices, especially Riad Idrissi and Souvenir-Marrakech!!! they are really cheap and look stunning!
I will also explain about the excursions and tell them to avoid Ourika but i doubt they will venture outside town because my friend is pregnant in early stages and would be scared to take transport and go on long road trips.
Thanks again, that's really helpful!

With your friend being pregnant i will not recommend Alidrisi its in Baba Doukala & its more for a budget travellers ,dollar des sables will be the best as its a 5mn from the square & Cathy runs a tight ship & if thy want to spend a bit more Maria & Jabrane will spoil them in Saba
