The US embassy in Morocco has been without an ambassador since 2017. The US Senators have not confirmed yet the nomination of American businessman David T. Fischer, who was named by Donald Trump as the US new ambassador to Morocco two years ago.
The latest military operation carried by rebel commander Khalifa Haftar in Tripoli towers above the Libyan political scene. Backed by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Haftar is trying take control over the Libyan capital which is headed by UN-backed Government of National Accord. The latter relies on Morocco’s support to counter Haftar’s efforts, a former Libyan official told Yabiladi.
As UN Security Council’s members are holding discussions on the Western Sahara draft resolution, the Poilisario Front accuses Morocco of spreading «fake news», quoting sources in New York.
By the end of this morning in Rabat, thousands of protesters joined a national march hosted to support the Hirak detainees. The rally was called for by trade unionists, political parties and human rights associations.
At the UN Security Council, discussions are underway on the Western Sahara draft resolution. To overcome this blockage, the United States is likely to submit a second version.
