After the Casablanca Appeals court upheld, earlier in April, prison sentences against Hirak activists, MPs in the Netherlands urged Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Stef Blok to summon Morocco’s ambassador to the country.

On Sunday, Blok commented on MPs’ call, stressing that «it is inappropriate to summon the Moroccan ambassador on this matter because the Kingdom’s authorities are already aware of the Dutch opinion in this regard since September», Dalil Rif reports.

For the record, the Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister rejected, in March, a similar request submitted by MPs who wanted to protest against the expulsion of a Dutch journalist from Morocco.

Bloc was cautious about commenting on the verdict, upheld on April 5th in Casablanca, noting that he is aware that the sentences handed over to Hirak detainees are «not fair». He recalled that a report was submitted on the situation of Hirak activists on September the 5th, in 2018.

The Dutch government's solidarity with the Hirak movement has affected diplomatic relations between Morocco and the Netherlands, pushing Rabat to summon its ambassador to the European country twice.
