The Polisario reacted, Friday, to the operation launched by the Royal Armed Forces aimed at securing the flow of goods and people through the Guerguerate border crossing. The Front believes Morocco has «violated the cease-fire» concluded in September 1991, by «sending military forces through three routes east of the illegal breach in Guerguerate to Sahrawi civilians who were demonstrating peacefully in the areas since October 21».
The separatist movement said in a statement that its militias «has begun to respond with the required firmness to this breach». The Polisario wrote that «the battles have started and the war has broken out».
Moreover, the Polisario announced the start of «a new decisive stage» in the conflict, urging its members to respond to «aggression».
So far, Algeria has not yet officially reacted to Morocco’s decision. The latter announced Friday that its army will intervene in Guerguerate to put an end to the blockade of the border crossing, initiated by pro-Polisario activists for nearly three weeks.
The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) set up, on the night of Thursday to Friday, a security cordon in order to secure the flow of goods and people across the Guerguerate zone.
