Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita received, Thursday, three new ambassadors, who came to present their credentials. They are the representatives of South Africa, Ebrahim Edries, Rwanda, Zaina Nyiramatama and Ireland, Ralph Victory.

The diplomat chosen by the government of Cyril Ramaphosa has already worked in Saudi Arabia as consul general in Jeddah. He was appointed head of the embassy in Rabat in September 2020. This is the first time that South Africa, since the reestablishment of relations in the 1990s, has agreed to raise the level of its diplomatic representation in Morocco and appoint an ambassador.

As for Ireland, the designation of Ralph Victory confirms the information published by Yabiladi in September on this European country’s desire to open an embassy in Rabat in 2021.

With Rwanda, the appointment of Zaina Nyiramatama is further proof of the excellent relations between Rabat and Kigali. The diplomat was appointed to this post last August, replacing Cheikh Saleh Habimana, Rwanda's first ambassador to Morocco appointed in July 2019.
