The 2020 consolidated turnover of the Tangier Med port reached MAD 2.42 billion, i.e. an increase of 1% compared to 2019 when it stood at MAD 2.38 billion.
According to a statement by the Tangier Med Port Authority (TMPA), the revenues recorded in the fourth quarter of 2020 reached MAD 649 million, the same level as the fourth quarter of 2019.
Tangier Med's port activity in the 4th quarter of 2020 was marked by growth in the main indicators of port activity, the statement said, noting that 5.77 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) containers were handled at the end of December 2020 (+20% compared to 2019), and 1.3 million TEU containers were handled in the 4th quarter of 2020 (+25% compared to 2019).
The container performance achieved at the end of 2020 represents a traffic never before reached by the ports of the Mediterranean basin, added the same source, stating that the bar of more than 500,000 TEU containers handled per month was exceeded 5 times in 2020, with a new record set in November 2020 of 553,164 TEU containers handled.
Regarding TIR truck traffic, 357,331 units were processed at the end of December 2020 (similar level compared to 2019) and 103,684 units were processed in the 4th quarter of 2020 (+9% compared to 2019), the statement concluded.
