On Monday, April 12, French Interior Minister phoned his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelouafi Laftite. After the call, Gerald Darmanin hailed on Twitter «the quality of cooperation» between the two countries, especially when it comes to «the fight against terrorism».
These discussions come a week after Abdellatif Hammouchi's services revealed that the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) sent the French authorities intelligence on a planned terrorist operation targeting a church in Montpellier.
The security aspect was also addressed by the French and Moroccan foreign ministers during a meeting they held online on April 8. On this occasion, Paris «praised the quality of security cooperation, particularly in the fight against terrorism», said the department of Jean-Yves Le Drian in a press release.
For the record, Gerald Dramanin visited Rabat on October 16, 2020 where he had talks with Abdelouafi Laftite. The two ministers then expressed «their determination to further strengthen security cooperation, in particular through the exchange of information and expertise and the consolidation of the legal framework governing their cooperation in this area». In the Moroccan capital, Darmanin was also received by Nasser Bourita.
