Both majority and opposition groups at the House of Advisors urged, on Tuesday in Rabat, the government to find operational alternatives and come up with new innovative solutions to mitigate the economic impact of the restrictive measures planned for the month of Ramadan.
During a plenary session on the discussion of the Head of Government's data on the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom, the members of the upper house considered that the situation calls for taking innovative measures and establishing proactive plans to avoid the deterioration of the economic situation.
The decision to maintain the night curfew is causing great difficulties for large segments of the population, said the advisors, referring in particular to workers in the informal sector, employees of cafes and restaurants as well as those whose activity depends on Ramadan ceremonies.
They urged the Executive to clarify the arrangements and measures taken to preserve jobs and national businesses, support families, face the economic recession and limit the psychological, social and economic effects of the curfew.
In his response, the head of government Saadeddine El Othmani reaffirmed that the decision concerns the continuation of the night curfew during Ramadan and not the shutdown of all activities as some are claiming.
International, regional and national data show that the pandemic has reached a critical phase, with a constant increase in cases of contamination and death, in addition to the emergence, in several countries, of new, fast-spreading and deadly strains which are more resistant to vaccines, said El Othmani.
In this regard, he said that the Executive is examining ways to support the sector of cafes, stressing the continuation of the support decided within the framework of program contracts for the benefit of employees and companies in several sectors, in particular tourism and cultural industries.
