The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albarez, confirmed that customs in Ceuta and Melilla will open as soon as Morocco solves some «technical problems». Morocco has already decided on the opening of the border crossings, the minister said.
«For our part, it is no longer necessary to conduct any other type of technical tests and everything is ready so that the customs of Ceuta and Melilla can be reopened starting tomorrow», he told La Sexta newspaper, quoted by Europa Press.
He stressed that «Spain is ready to start crossing those customs with goods, and Morocco, for its part, clearly stated that the decision has been made and that these technical problems simply need to be solved».
However, the statement of the Spanish Foreign minister did not convince the Melilla Businessmen Association, and its president, Enrique Alcoba. «Saying that there is a technical problem while commercial customs have been open for 60 years is ridiculous and disrespectful to the citizens of Ceuta and Melilla», Alcoba argued, questioning the nature of said «technical problems».
«We do not know whether Morocco is deceiving the Spanish government or whether the Spanish government is constantly deceiving us, the businessmen in Ceuta and Melilla», he concluded.
