France reaffirms unwavering support for Moroccan Sahara sovereignty

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu reaffirmed on Thursday in Rabat his country’s «unwavering» position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

«This position, I say again here, is unwavering. It will not change and, as you know, we are drawing all the necessary conclusions from it», Lecornu said at a press briefing following the High-Level Meeting he co-chaired with Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.

He further stressed that «France stands alongside Morocco, loyally and faithfully», emphasizing the «clarity» of the position expressed by French President Emmanuel Macron in the message he sent to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Throne Day, on July 30, 2024.

In that message, President Macron officially stated that he considers the present and future of the Sahara to fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

The 15th session of the Morocco-France High-Level Meeting was held this Thursday, underscoring the strengthened exceptional partnership between Morocco and France, under the leadership of the two heads of state.
