The Executive Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) reaffirmed its trust in Mohamed Ouahbi as the national coach on Thursday. Despite Morocco’s elimination in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, the Atlas Lions' overall performance has been recognized as «honorable» by the committee. In a statement, the federation highlighted that reaching the quarter-finals was an «achievement», while emphasizing the need to «learn from this campaign to meet future challenges and maintain competitive standards in upcoming tournaments».
The committee noted that these achievements stemmed from «significant efforts initiated in 2018, when the national team ranked 84th in the FIFA standings, climbing to 6th place in the latest ranking», showcasing «spectacular progress». Moving forward, the team «must aim for the latter stages of the World Cup, particularly after reaching the semi-finals in 2022 and the quarter-finals in 2026, maintaining top competitive levels».

In this context, FRMF president Fouzi Lekjaa stated that «Morocco's sporting ambition grows with each competition». Highlighting achievements across different age categories, he pointed to the U20 World Cup title, the «excellent run» at the U17 World Cup in 2025, and the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. These successes, he noted, are a testament to the talent within Moroccan football.
Lekjaa called for «strengthening channels of communication with the national public to showcase FRMF’s efforts for Moroccan football». He stressed the importance of engaging with «constructive feedback» to «address shortcomings and achieve desired goals».
