Moroccan scientist Rachid Yazami awarded 2023 VinFuture Grand Prize

Moroccan scientist, engineer, and inventor Rachid Yazami was awarded on Thursday, December 21, by the 2023 VinFuture Prize, alongside three other scientists.

The ceremony was held by the the VinFuture Foundation in Hanoi, Vietnam. The US$3 million Grand Prize was granted to the «Invention in creating a sustainable platform for green energy through production with solar cells and storage swith Lithium-ion batteries» created by Prof. Rachid Yazami, Prof. Martin Andrew Green (Australia), Prof. Stanley Whittingham (United States), and Prof. Akira Yoshino (Japan).

Three VinFuture Special Prizes were awarded to «Invention and advancement of disease-resistant rice varieties», «The discovery of the ozone depletion mechanism in Antarctica», and «The discovery of the role of glucagon-like peptides-1 (GLP-1), paving the way for widely used treatments for diabetes and obesity».

For the record, Rachid Yazami has been known for more than thirty years as one of the most successful Moroccan researchers. The polyglot and passionate scientist has traveled the world to introduce one of the most useful inventions : lithium-ion batteries.
