After his release by Moroccan judicial authorities, Ali Lmrabet made his way back to Spain. Speaking from his home, the journalist granted an interview to a Spanish media outlet, where he delivered sharp criticism of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his foreign minister, José Manuel Albares.
«Everyone in Spain knows that Pedro Sánchez and Albares are Morocco’s puppets», he declared. Lmrabet also accused the Spanish leader of «delivering grand human rights speeches while staying silent on Morocco’s espionage against Spanish citizens».
The journalist went further, alleging that José Manuel Albares «acts as an official for the Moroccan state». He also mentioned the case of former foreign minister Arancha González Laya, asserting she was removed in July 2021 «at Morocco’s request».
Lmrabet expressed nostalgia for the era when José María Aznar of the People's Party (PP) led the Spanish government from 1996 to 2004. He noted that the former prime minister had appealed to Moroccan authorities for his release during his first arrest in 2003.
Ali Lmrabet holds little hope that Pedro Sánchez and José Manuel Albares will advocate for him. «How could they intervene for me when they have abandoned the Sahrawi people?» he questioned.
