The Amazigh language is taught in 31% of Morocco's primary schools, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, said on Monday.

The ministry aims to reach a rate of 50% during the school year 2025-2026, Benmoussa underlined at the House of Representatives’ question time.

To achieve this objective, the ministry recruited 200 Amazigh language teachers in 2021, 400 in 2022 and 600 in 2023, in addition to the recruitment of bilingual teachers.

During the 2023 session, a first promotion of primary education inspectors (Amazigh language) was trained, Benmoussa recalled, adding that the ministry also approved new school manuals for Amazigh language teaching in primary schools.
