Morocco and Spain agreed , Monday in Rabat, to accelerate the activation of the memorandum of understanding related to cooperation in transport and logistics. The memorandum was signed in February 2023 in Rabat during the 12th session of the high-level meeting between the two countries.

A statement from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics stated that this desire was expressed during a working meeting between the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, and the Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Puente Santiago. The two parties also agreed to form a joint team to develop an action plan on relevant topics covered by the memorandum.

The meeting, attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Enrique Ojeda, and a high-level Spanish delegation, provided an opportunity for both parties to praise the quality and excellence of the cooperation ties that bring together Morocco and Spain in various fields, especially transport and logistics. They also discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation in these sectors further.

At the level of maritime transport, the two parties appreciated the steps taken to launch the sea line between Tarfaya, Morocco, and Puerto del Rosario in the Canary Islands. They noted the important role this line will play in encouraging tourism in both regions and enhancing trade exchange between the two countries.

With regard to railway transport, the discussions focused on developing bilateral cooperation. This includes examining opportunities for the Spanish side to invest in railway projects planned by Morocco, as well as encouraging technical exchange between actors in the railway sector of both countries.

As for the road transport sector for passengers and goods, the two ministers praised the ongoing dialogue of the Moroccan-Spanish Joint Committee for International Road Transport. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation to better serve the needs of professionals in this vital sector for passenger and goods transport between the two countries.

On another level, the ministers discussed measures taken by both countries to prepare for the «Marhaba 2024» process, a program facilitating the return of Moroccans living abroad to their home country, stressing the need for concerted efforts to ensure its success.
