Morocco, NATO discuss security cooperation in the Mediterranean

Morocco's Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of the National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudyi, met with Admiral Rob Bauer, Chairman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Military Committee, on Monday. Admiral Bauer is on a visit to Morocco from April 28th to 30th.

«This visit is part of NATO's efforts to strengthen its partnership with members of the Mediterranean Dialogue», the National Defense Department said in a statement. «The aim is to assess the regional security situation and consolidate opportunities for cooperation with the Alliance».

During the talks, the officials discussed cooperation between NATO and Morocco in areas like training and capacity-building to ensure security in the Mediterranean region, the statement added.

Admiral Bauer praised Morocco's «multidimensional engagement as an important stabilizing actor» in the face of regional security challenges. He also commended Morocco's «determination, under the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI, to implement reform strategies and radiate the Kingdom as an oasis of stability and peace for its Euro-Mediterranean and African neighborhood».

The meeting concluded with both officials expressing a shared ambition to further strengthen relations between Morocco and NATO.

According to the communique, Admiral Bauer is scheduled to deliver a lecture on «NATO's prospects and strategies» for military officers at the Royal School of Higher Military Studies in Kenitra.
