On Tuesday, May 28th, an agreement was signed in Rabat with the Italian NUTI IVO group to establish a second modern tannery in Morocco. The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and the group's CEO, Fabrizio Nuti.

This memorandum of understanding, valid from 2025 to 2029, covers an investment of 131.2 million dirhams, with forecast annual sales of 300 million dirhams. Over 90% of these sales are expected to be generated by exports, and the project will create 265 direct jobs. Daily production is estimated at 11,500 skins, mainly from local sources, according to a press release.

This innovative project will be based on the principles of the circular economy and sustainability. It includes the use of solar energy to meet part of the tannery's energy needs, as well as the implementation of waste treatment processes aimed at recycling waste, such as fertilizer, compost, and gelatin.

«The Moroccan tanning industry is a historic sector in the throes of change in the face of environmental challenges and requirements. The NUTI IVO Group's new modern tannery project is perfectly in line with this dynamic, since it will meet the requirements of target markets in terms of quality and environmental standards, and will enable us to supply medium and top-of-the-range raw materials», declared Ryad Mezzour.

Already established in Morocco since 2010, the Italian NUTI IVO Group is looking to strengthen its presence in the country, with plans to double production. The group's first tannery, Shihara, located in Marrakech's Sidi Ghanem industrial zone, generates annual sales of over 109.3 million dirhams, mainly from exports to Italy, China, and Thailand.
