Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon, announced on Wednesday that it plans to offer cloud computing in Morocco. AWS will offer these services through its AWS Wavelength platform in partnership with telecommunications company Orange.
According to Reuters, Orange will be tasked with housing the services in its data centers. The move is driven by the growing demand for secure local data housing from banks, telecoms, and healthcare companies. This partnership will also cover Senegal.
The cloud market is expected to grow 15% annually, reaching $18 billion by 2028, according to data platform Statista, cited by Reuters. The AWS infrastructure will help companies that want to keep their data local, including those in the telecommunications, financial, public sector, and healthcare industries.
«Customers of all sizes and industries in Morocco and Senegal will be able to access local AWS compute and storage for data residency, low latency, and application security needs», said AWS Vice President Jan Hofmeyr.
Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services, such as servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligences over the Internet to provide faster innovation, flexible resources, and economies of scale.
