Spanish regional airline Binter Canarias resumed its direct flights between Tangier and Gran Canaria (Spain) on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. This step was taken in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) to reinforce the commitment of both parties to the resumption of tourism with the Canary Islands.

Flights between Ibn Battouta airport (Tangier) and Gran Canaria airport (LPA) will be operational until the end of October. This extends the connection period compared with last year. The first direct flight took four hours, carrying passengers aboard Binter's ATR72 aircraft, saving them time and eliminating stopovers.

Borja Bethencourt, head of international communications at Binter, welcomed the opening of this summer route, highlighting that the company is offering 35.8% more seats this season than last year (1,890 seats available). He added, «The opening of this route was very well received last year, and we believe it will be the same this year, as it is an offer designed to stimulate tourism between the Canaries and Morocco».

Departures are scheduled every Wednesday at 2.10pm, arriving in the Canary Islands at 5.50pm. Return flights take off from Gran Canaria at 10.10 a.m. and arrive in Tangier at 1.25 p.m. Binter is also keen to strengthen its links with Agadir airport, with a second weekly flight during July, August and the first two weeks of September.
