Following in the footsteps of the UN Secretary-General, the Sahrawi Peace Movement (MSP) has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire by the Polisario, according to the daily La Razon on Monday, August 12.

The breakaway organization from the separatist movement led by Brahim Ghali affirmed, in a press release, its commitment to reaching a «political agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco» through the roadmap outlined at the Dakar Conference (Senegal) in late October 2023.

The MSP urged Sahrawis still residing in the Tindouf camps to avoid wasting time in the internal struggles of a declining Polisario, and to join the MSP in preserving the interests and rights of their people.

In a report submitted to the UN General Assembly in late July, Antonio Guterres warned of an «escalation» in the Sahara. The Portuguese official emphasized the need to restore the ceasefire, which was broken by the Polisario on November 13, 2020, in response to the Royal Armed Forces' intervention to reopen the El Guerguerate border crossing, blocked by Polisario Front members for several weeks.
