Morocco and Hungary have formalized a partnership agreement in the field of archives. The agreement was signed on August 12, 2024, during a working visit to Budapest by Bahija Simou, Director of the Royal Archives.

The partnership aims to enhance archive holdings, promote knowledge sharing in archiving and digitization, and organize joint academic and cultural events. The agreement was signed by Simou and Csaba Szabo, Director General of the Hungarian National Archives, according to a press release from the Moroccan embassy in Budapest.

The collaboration will also involve the Austrian National Archives. During her visit, Simou explored archives related to Morocco's historical ties with the House of Habsburg at the Otto von Habsburg Foundation.

This initiative underscores Morocco's commitment to cultural diplomacy and strengthening ties with Central European nations. The press release highlighted the centuries-old relationship between the Alaouite and Habsburg dynasties and emphasized the importance of understanding both historical and contemporary relations between Morocco, Austria, and Hungary.

Simou's visit was at the invitation of the Hungarian National Archives to explore these historical links and deepen bilateral cooperation.
