Morocco secures first gold medal at Paris 2024 Paralympics with Mouncef Bouja's 400m victory

Moroccan athlete Mouncef Bouja won a gold medal on Thursday at the Paralympic Games currently taking place in Paris, after claiming victory in the 400-meter race in the T12 category.

Bouja secured the win with a time of 48.62 seconds.

The silver medal was awarded to American Noah Malone with a time of 49.35 seconds, while the bronze medal went to Tunisia's Rouay Jebabli, who finished with a time of 49.56 seconds.

Bouja had qualified for the final round on Wednesday after finishing first in his elimination heat with a time of 48.98 seconds, ahead of Thailand's Tisoman Kisanapong with a time of 50.68 seconds, and Zambia's Lasam Katongo, who took third place with a time of 58.77 seconds.

This is Morocco's first gold medal and eighth overall at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, adding to the bronze medals of Ayman El Haddaoui in the 100m for the T47 category, Ayoub Adouich in the under-63 kg (K44 category), and Raja Akrmash in the over-65 kg category.

Additional bronze medals were also won by Saida Amoudi in the P34 shot put, Fatima Zahraa El Idrissi in the 1500m (T13), Abdallah Kani in the shot put, and Yousra Karim in the discus throw (P41).
