Spain's Vox party has officially called on the government to summon the Moroccan ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, in order to «exert diplomatic pressure» and «arrest the criminal who killed Civil Guards in Barbate», a Spanish municipality in the Province of Cádiz, the party's spokesperson for congress, Pepa Millan, said on Tuesday.
According to Spanish media, Millan criticized the government, accusing them of being unable to «lift a finger» to carry out an operation to arrest the suspect in the murder of two Civil Guard officers, despite «heavy state oversight».
Millan blamed the government for failing to take action in the double murder of the Civil Guards in Barbate last February, claiming authorities «knew the whereabouts of the suspect in a coastal village in Morocco». She also criticized the Moroccan authorities, alleging that they «have not moved to arrest the perpetrator because of the preferential treatment he receives due to his good connections».
The Vox representative further accused Spain's ruling Socialist Party of «absolute submission» to Morocco, stating that «this submission is evident even in cases like these».
Millan also denounced Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's claims of «good neighborly relations with Morocco», and his pride in «constantly sending money to Morocco from Spain and the European Union».
The incident in question occurred on February 9, when two Civil Guard officers were killed in the port of Barbate (Cádiz) after a drug smuggling boat rammed a vessel from the Civil Guard's diving unit. Another officer was seriously injured, later falling into a coma and having his arm amputated.
