The Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed the expulsion of Moroccan Said Ben Iazza, one of the three jihadists convicted in the August 17, 2017 Barcelona and Cambrils attacks, according to Spanish media. The expulsion took place in April.

Initially, Ben Iazza was sentenced to eight years in prison for collaborating with a terrorist organization. The judge later determined that, while not directly involved in the attacks, he had loaned a truck to members of the Ripoll terrorist cell and provided them with documents used to purchase explosives.

The Spanish parliament agreed to begin declassifying National Intelligence Center (CNI) reports related to the Catalonia terrorist attacks. The Supreme Court later reduced the sentence to 18 months in prison, considering Ben Iazza's actions negligent. He was at liberty at the time of his expulsion, having completed the Supreme Court sentence.

The attacks killed 16 people and injured more than 100 others.
