The Moroccan Consulate in Valencia has revealed a new fatality among Moroccans residing in the region, raising the death toll to two.
The first victim, a man born in 1979, was a resident of the town of "Riba-roja" within the consular district of Valencia. His body was found the day before yesterday, according to what the Consul General, Said El Idrissi El Bouzidi, had informed Yabiladi website.
El Bouzidi had also confirmed that two cases were transferred to the hospital. The first case is a person suffering from a pre-existing illness, where water had seeped into his home, exacerbating his condition, but he is now in a stable condition and not a cause for concern. The second case is a man who was driving a truck passing through the outskirts of Valencia and suffered minor injuries due to the storm.
He pointed out that the search is still ongoing for dozens of missing persons from the Moroccan community residing in the area, but this "does not necessarily mean that they are victims, as the reason may simply be problems with the network that was disrupted due to the hurricane."
The consulate had established a "crisis cell" tasked with monitoring all cases that need assistance and moved to places where victims may be present in coordination with the local authorities, in addition to allocating two phone numbers to support community members affected by this disaster and to report missing persons.
The death toll in Spain has risen to 207 people due to the massive floods that swept through the southern and eastern regions of Spain, in the worst floods the country has witnessed in decades.
The Spanish Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, confirmed that the number may rise in the coming hours as the search continues in the most affected areas.
King Mohammed VI had given his instructions to the Minister of Interior to make a phone call to his Spanish counterpart, in order to express Morocco's readiness to send relief teams and provide all necessary assistance to Spain to face this natural disaster.
