At Wednesday's Council of Ministers meeting, King Mohammed VI ordered a review of the prerogatives of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE), established on May 26, 2016, under the Benkirane government.

The sovereign called on the government to revise ANRE's scope, according to a statement from the Royal Palace spokesman. The proposed revision aims to expand ANRE's mandate beyond electricity to cover all components of the energy sector, including natural gas, emerging energies like hydrogen and its derivatives, and activities such as production, storage, transport, and distribution. This expansion aligns with the sector's level of maturity in Morocco and international best practices.

Pending the implementation of these directives, King Mohammed VI appointed Zouhair Chorfi as Chairman of ANRE, in accordance with Article 49 of the Constitution, on the proposal of the Head of Government and the initiative of the Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

Chorfi previously served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and the Economy.
