Huelva to recruit 4,000 Moroccan workers for strawberry harvest

A group of agricultural associations from Huelva arrived in Morocco on Monday to select around 4,000 new seasonal workers for the strawberry harvesting campaign, joining 11,000 others of the same nationality. According to Asaja-Huelva, one of the associations, the recruitment team will stay in Morocco until December 19 to select 1,204 more workers to complete the quota from last year, which was for 16,000 workers, of whom around 11,000 arrived in Huelva.

This year, about 4,000 workers will be selected for all agricultural associations, which does not fully meet the needs of the province's red fruit sector. Hiring from Morocco represents only about 10 percent of the total jobs for the season, according to Spanish media.

The previous campaign in Huelva saw 14,037 workers arrive between January and March 2024, including 82 from Ecuador, 371 from Honduras, and 503 from Colombia, with Moroccan workers making up the largest share at 13,081.
