Algeria will continue to pursue its «Maghreb without Morocco» project in 2025. «We are currently preparing for the third summit in Tripoli at the beginning of the new year», stated the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs during a press conference on Monday, December 30.

«Algeria's proposal to create a trilateral mechanism for consultation and cooperation has been approved by Tunisia and Libya, resulting in concrete projects to address these countries' issues», he noted with satisfaction.

In his statements, Attaf did not mention any potential integration of Mauritania into the Algerian project. As a reminder, in March 2024, the Algerian Foreign Minister had expressed optimism about Nouakchott's adherence to the Algerian project in press statements. He had even advised skeptics to «follow the news».

Mauritania did not participate in the first meeting on March 3 in Algiers, which announced the Algerian project. It also maintained an empty chair policy during the April 23 summit in Tunis.
