In a significant health milestone, Morocco has witnessed a 70% drop in maternal mortality over the past two decades, as reported by Health and Social Protection Minister Amine Tahraoui to the House of Representatives on Monday.
The maternal mortality rate has plummeted from 244 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2000 to just 72 deaths in 2020. This remarkable achievement is attributed to «Morocco's efforts in terms of medical supervision, particularly in gynecology-obstetrics», Tahraoui emphasized during a parliamentary session.
To build on these successes, the minister highlighted that the Ministry is intensifying its efforts to ensure comprehensive medical supervision in this critical area. Positions have been created to train medical specialists on a contractual basis, facilitated through annual residency tests.
Tahraoui also reaffirmed his department's dedication to enhancing public hospitals annually. This involves equipping them with a range of vital specialties, aiming to guarantee the continuity of health services and uphold the right to quality care for all citizens.
